Jaruh The remixes Vimal Pawa
At the UMT office today, Oriki is our choice. Before we can understand what an Oriki is, we need to understand the origins of this word. Oriki comes from the Yoruba culture. The Yoruba are one of the largest ethnic African ethnic groups just south of the Sahara Desert.
As many as 20 percent of the Yoruba still practice the traditional religions and cultures of their ancestors. Hence, in Yoruba culture, an Oriki is a form of praise poetry or a way of greeting someone and introducing them through praise. Ori is “head”, and ki, to greet or praise. Still confused? Think of how characters were introduced to others in the popular TV series Game of Thrones.
To be honest, we are not claiming we know why the track is called Oriki. But, the point is, we love it, and it is definitely worthy of solid praise. Shai T is a well-established artist who is truly ahead of the game in the underground electronic music scene. The Israeli star is not only an amazing DJ & producer, but he is also a multi-instrumentalist and an accomplished performer. He has worked with many well-known labels and this time around is no different. Shai T releases his EP with Brazilian label Warung Recordings this time around.
There is little wonder why this is in the Organic House charts of Beatport. It is a masterpiece well put together. Listen here:
