Artist Interview – Eleven of July

We meet Eleven of July, as part of our ‘Kao Na’ artist interview series.

9 is a lucky number in Thailand. 9 also means forward stepping or progress. Kao Na or 9 forward

1.) First things first. What is your favourite Thai meal?
I’m allergic to spicy food. So my favourite Thai meal is probably the simple classic, rice and chicken. Also, Mango & Sticky Rice is lovely.

2.) Tell us more about you.
My name is Augusto. I am an Italian. I am a full-time international DJ and music producer who recently relocated to Thailand one year ago. Music is my life and what I do every day. I started DJing since I was a kid when only turntables were available. So, I would say I am an old-school kind of DJ who still loves the wax feeling. At the same time, I am also in line with the times and I love to experiment with technology, playing around with live sets, and bringing my production skills into the club as well. Outside of music, I love using all the time I don’t spend in the studio to play sports swimming, going to the beach, and trying to keep myself as healthy as possible. I believe this is crucial in order to stay focused in my career.

3.) How did you start DJing?
I started DJing as a kid. The first person to introduce me to underground music was my cousin, who had already been DJing for a while. Back then Progressive (Not Progressive House), a genre and movement born in Italy, was popular. It is mostly made by Italian producers. I still feel the influence of this genre in my music production.

4.) What genres do you play?
I love to play dub, melodic, ambient, and raw Techno. Also, Progressive House lately, as it is getting closer to Melodic Techno. I really love these styles when I want a bit more movement on my sets.

5.) Who or what are your music influences?
As I had mentioned above, I’ve hardly been influenced by the underground movement of the early 90’s. But I have been influenced by the next underground movement ever since. Also, being a party lover, I don’t really have particular artists who influenced me. Much rather say genres: ambient and dub Techno, but also Classical music, especially in my production. It plays an important role in my inspiration process.

6.) Favourite place to party?
Probably Bangkok. I love the feeling of the underground clubs there.

7.) Are you making your own music?/ Do you have any tracks out?
I started my own production back in 2017 with an official release. Ever since then, my production flow has been unstoppable. I had 22 releases in 2020. As I write this, I currently have three releases out: A remix for the German label Vision3, a single for the English label Sequence Music, and a solo EP for the infamous Dear Deer music label.

8.) What is your all-time favourite track?
Hard to choose but Alex Silvi’s “Atomic” seems ethereal to me.
Alex Silvi’s “Atomic”

9.) Finally, what are your thoughts about the launch of ozonebeach.club?
I am very excited about this huge project. Thailand deserves a competitive music scene to finally put itself as a big scene in the world. I hope to contribute – especially inside the club. Being a European and international artist, I am very keen to always discover and experiment with the latest, cutting edge sounds. In my studio and in my booth.
