Artist Interview – Beatnaut
Today, we meet Beatnaut as part of our ‘Kao Na’ artist interview series.
9 is a lucky number in Thailand. 9 also means forward stepping or progress. Kao Na or 9 forward.
1.) First things first, what is your favourite Thai meal?
Gaeng Som (Southern Thai sour and spicy fish curry/soup)
2.) Tell us more about you.
My name is Tolga. I am Turkish, but I was born and raised in Germany. I have lived in Asia for 13 years now. In that time, I have been living in Thailand for three years now. Nowadays, I spend most of my time on Koh Lanta, where I run Full-Fill Cafe with my partner.
3.) How did you start DJing?
I was raised in a very small town in Germany that had very few nightlife options. Not to mention, our musical vision and appetite were a little too large for that place. So, we created it ourselves. It started with two CD players and a small mixer. Once hooked on that “medicine”, I added my LP player and my limited 45 selection to the mix. That’s when the “big bang” happened for me. That’s when I realised it is boundless and ever-expanding.
4.) What genres do you play?
Eclectic Fusion
5.) Who or what are your music influences?
For my musical becoming, it is a culmination of circumstances and experiences throughout my life. with my Anatolian heritage, I am drawn to Oriental scales, instruments, and rhythm. In Germany, I was born into the electronic music revolution. Also, having spent most of my adulthood in Asia, traditional, classical, and folk music of the continent has captivated me. All these different episodes or moments were intersected by people and mentors who have helped me to grow as an artist. Most notably, my associations with Rupak George from Mantravine /Chill Session Records and various other exceptional musicians and DJ’s I had the privilege to work with and learn from.
Favourite place to party in Thailand?
Koh Lanta
Are you making your own music? Do you have any tracks out? Or do you have any other creative projects to share?
My creative process is mostly focused on the performance itself with a goal of creating unique and intimate experiences with the crowd using different elements and musicians such as live sampling, percussion, vocals and synths.
What is your all-time favourite track?
Dove – Cymande Dove – Cymande
Finally, what are your thoughts about the launch of ozonebeach.club?
The best thing that happened since Covid! Outstanding team and artists focusing on the essence of what we do… Bring people together with music.
Please rate us and this project!
