Artist Interview – Areas

We meet Areas (Formerly known as AMATA), as part of our ‘Kao Na’ artist interview series.

9 is a lucky number in Thailand. 9 also means forward stepping or progress. Kao Na or 9 forward.

1.) First things first, what is your favourite Thai meal?
I don’t actually have a favourite. But if I really had to choose, I would say sticky rice!

2.) Tell us more about you.
After playing in the underground scene at illegal parties for five years, I decided to take on a new challenge. I decided to give everyone my take on minimal and electronic sounds. Hence, the name change. I feel that Areas has a more relevant name to my production. I have collaborated with labels such as FQTRAX (The Netherlands), Zebra Rec. (Romania), and many more.

3.) How did you start DJing?
I used to work in a bar. Every Friday night, the owner would put on electronic music. He mostly put on House, Minimal, and Techno. These genres made me fall in love and become passionate about underground music. That’s where it started for me.

4.) What genres do you play?
Micro House, Minimal House, Techno, and Electronica.

5.) Who or what are your music influences?
There are so many artists to mention. The ones I like are usually from Romania, UK, Berlin, Italy, and more.

6.) Favourite place to party in Thailand?
The mountains and the islands.

7.) Are you making your own music?/Do you have any tracks out?

9.) Finally, what are your thoughts on the launch of ozonebeach.club?
It’s a great platform full of nice people and nice music.
