Artist Interview – Ron Jameson
We meet Ron Jameson, as part of our ‘Kao Na’ artist interview series.
9 is a lucky number in Thailand. 9 also means forward stepping or progress. Kao Na or 9 forward
1.) First things first. What is your favourite Thai meal?
Guay Jub and Crab Som Tum.
2.) Tell us more about you.
I was born and raised in New York. I started travelling the world when I was 18 and made my way to Thailand in 2007. I love cats, love to cook, and love to create music. It’s always in my head. It’s something I have to do.
3.) How did you start DJing?
My younger brother got me into DJing before there were CDJ’s. There was only vinyl then and we used to do house parties with a pair of Gemini Turntables until we had enough money to buy Technics 1200’s. It was a fascinating time of music and if you went to a party. If you went to a party or an event, there was usually at least two or three rooms of music with a 10-15 DJ lineup with different styles. Everyone was cool with each other. However, I think now is also a truly fascinating time for music. There are so many artists to inspire right now.
4.) What genres do you play?
All elements of House music including, Disco, Jackin’, Deep House, and Tech House. I also play Afro and Downtempo stuff as well. It all depends on the occasion.
5.) Who or what are your music influences?
My dad had a sh*tload of records that I used to go through, including Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. When I got a bit older, I listened to The Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Wu Tang Clan, and such. Then, in high school, I went through a Death Metal phase till I started DJing. Then, my influences at the time would have been guys like Doc Marten, DJ Dan, Terry Mullen, Boy George, Pete Tong, Bad Boy Bill, Rob Daboom, DJ Flex (NY), Richie Salvaggio, Mark Farina, DJ Onionz, DJ Carlos, from San Francisco. Too many actually. Micky Finn, Mc GQ, Randall, Darren Jay. Too many to name. I loved them all.
6.) Favourite place to party in Thailand?
There are so many great places. Back when I first came to Thailand, it was The Club on Khao San Road. Also, Q Bar and Oscar in Sukhumvit Soi 11. More recently, my favourite places are Safe Room, Sing Sing, Studio Lam, Mustache, Viva, JJ Market, and Beam. However, just before the pandemic hit, I would say Curve Niteclub and Canvas.
7.) Are you making your own music?/ Do you have any tracks out?
I am a full time producer. I produce for B Club Milano, Nervous Records, Ballloom, Evolve Music, Mood Funk Records, House 4 Life, and some others. You can find alll my stuff on Beatport and Traxsource, as well as most of your preferred listening platforms.
8.) What is your all-time favourite track?
Josh Wink – Higher State of Consciousness.
Josh Wink – Higher State of Consciousness
9.) Finally, what are your thoughts about the launch of ozonebeach.club?
