Artist Interview – Alex Fischer
Today, we meet Alex Fischer as part of ‘Kao Na’ artist interview series.
9 is a lucky number in Thailand. 9 also means forward stepping or progress. Kao Na or 9 forward.
1.) First things first, what is your favourite Thai meal?
Pad Krapao Gai (Stir-Fried chicken in basil)
2.) Tell us more about you.
I am 40 years old, I was born in Dunkirk, North of France, at the border of Belgium. However, I moved to Thailand 10 years ago to live out my passion. My passion is to play music and make people happy. This country really gave me the opportunity to live the lifestyle I wanted while meeting beautiful people.
Before the pandemic, I had my residency at Oskar Bistro. Also, I have played in many places in Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, and all of the festivals in Thailand.
My other hobbies are baking, cooking, running, and playing basketball. I have also created a clothing brand with a friend surrounding techno and techno related humour called #ICANNOT.
3.) How did you start DJing?
I started practising in my neighbour’s room. In the beginning, he had bought some turntables and was just starting with vinyl. After seeing him, when I was 18 years old, my brother and I bought our own pair of turntables and our own collection of vinyl. Back then, I was more into Hip Hop and Urban music. But, it was at this time I learned I was not good at scratching and quickly turned to electronic music. However, before becoming a professional DJ, I did study light & sound and, I got my degree in France.
4.) What genres do you play?
At the moment, Organic House and Progressive House.
5.) Who or what are your music influences?
That would have to be Funk, Soul Disco & Hip Hop.
6.) Favourite place to party?
In this case, I would have to say Wonderfruit.
7.) Are you making your own music? Do you have any tracks out? Or do you have other creative projects to share?
Yes, I did two tracks in collaboration with Kieron aka MDE (My Digital Enemy). However, I have not released them yet. One is a bootleg of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” called“Thrill (or) ganic”. I have also created a show playing on a mobile DJ booth on the street similar to Suat in England, calling it Dern Len (Go For a Walk in Thai or เดินเล่น). In addition, I have a radio show on Soundcloud called Fan Whan (Sweet Dreams in Thai or ฝันหวาน) with has the best of Organic & Melodic House.
8.) What is your all-time favorite track?
That would have to be the classic track, Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love”
9.) Finally, what are your thoughts about the launch of ozonebeach.club?
I really like the effort and energy from the team to push the underground music scene in Thailand. Ten years ago, we had UB radio. But, I was not part of that team. Although, I hope we will have a big reunion someday and bounce out all the EDM in the main clubs in this country.
Please rate the UMT project:
